100% Gamay, certified organic, from vines planted on poor, acidic soil with granitic sand. The vines are on average 70 years old, farmed without chemical fertilizers or pesticides. The grapes are harvested by hand, and carefully sorted. Vinification: semi-carbonic maceration of 10-21 days, without additives. Matured 9 months in 216-litre barrels, unfiltered, with a micro-dose of SO2 at bottling.
Mathieu Lapierre returned to the family estate in 2005. But behind the Domaine Lapierre was first his father Marcel, pope (with Jean Foillard) of natural wine in Beaujolais. Marcel Lapierre passed away in 2010, leaving behind Morgons which by then had taken on mythic status and, in the footsteps of Jules Chauvet, a philosophy of natural wine which earned him legions of followers. In his words:...All wines
