The label of this wine is a Maori design drawn by Heidi Kuka, Julien’s partner. As the eldest son of Claude Courtois, Julien is determined to take us on a voyage far beyond his native Sologne with this 100% Gamay de Chaudenay cuvée, from vines planted in 1968. A rare teinturier (literally, ‘dyer’) grape variety once used to add colour to other wines, now mostly found near Ancenis. Vinification: 100% destemmed, one week of maceration with a few punch-down or pump-overs, 15 moths of aging in old barrels.
