Domaine Sébastien Riffault
Skeveldra - 2016 - Sébastien Riffault
This very expressive “Sancerre” comes between quotation marks because the aromatic palette is so baffling and mineralesque. It’s also extremely fruity: guava, pineapple, and pear… The palate has great length and minerality, with a saline finish. Yet another highly surprising bottling.

A Sauvignon cuvée from a 1-ha parcel planted on a flinty soil, located in the commune of Saint-Satur. The vines are 50 years old and the yields quite low, around 20 hl/ha. As for the vinification: 3 months of fermentation in old barrels, including malolactic fermentation, all with natural yeasts. No sulphur is added – neither during vinification, maturation, nor at bottling. Matured 36 months in old barrels on its fine lees, and bottled without filtration. The estate is certified organic and biodynamic by DEMETER.
Sébastien Riffault, look no further, it’s him, the 100% natural winemaker in Sancerre. His estate, Domaine Etienne et Sébastien Riffault, is located in Sury-en-Vaux. There Sébastien works his soils with horses, uses zero chemicals in the vines, and farms biodynamically. If is approach recalls that of Alexandre Bain, it’s perhaps not surprising to know the two are not only neighbours but close...All wines
