Domaine Jean-Michel Stephan
Côte Rôtie "Cuvée 36" - 2017 - Jean Michel Stephan - Magnum
An ultra complex nose – powerful and fruity, with notes of small berries and flowers. On the palate: a concentrated yet complex juice, smooth, mineralesque, chalky, and redolent of blackcurrant... A thing of beauty! Yet another otherworldly wine from Jean Michel... A perfect gift for true aficionados.

A 100% Sérine cuvée, from six vine parcels in the Côte-Rôtie appellation. Jean-Michel is a purist, rejecting chemicals, both in the vineyard and in the cellar, thus he bans sulphur, uses only indigenous yeasts, etc... Yields are extremely low – 15 hl/ha. Vinification: carbonic maceration, 36 months of maturation in barrels that have seen several wines (i.e. 12 months longer than his "classic" cuvées). With 150 Magnums produced (one barrel), this rare cuvée only sees the day in exceptional vintages yielding wines of significant ageing potential.
