Mathieu Lapierre

Mathieu Lapierre returned to the family estate in 2005. But behind the Domaine Lapierre was first his father Marcel, pope (with Jean Foillard) of natural wine in Beaujolais. Marcel Lapierre passed away in 2010, leaving behind Morgons which by then had taken on mythic status and, in the footsteps of Jules Chauvet, a philosophy of natural wine which earned him legions of followers. Following the death of his father, Mathieu took up the reigns and has followed the same path. Since then, he has also been joined by his sister Camille, to help him in this challenge. Predominantly planted in Villié-Morgon, the estate's 17 hectares also include two hectares in the cru of Côte de Py. It's easy to be fond of these wines in their youth, but one must also know how to put some away for a time, for these Morgons will age superbly, gaining in complexity, beginning to develop Pinot Noir aromas like its Burgundian cousins. The wines have remained as forceful as ever!
