Kisi - 2017 - John Okruashvili

An intense nose of quince, thyme honey, and cumin... Palate: smooth, with assertive tannins, lots of texture, and lovely length on the palate. It's a bit of Georgia in a bottle! Worth decanting, and must be tried with a plate of ripened cheeses.

100% Kisi, from old vines that have never been touched by chemicals, planted in the famous wine region of Kakheti, in eastern Georgia. Harvested by hand, of course. This cuvée is actually vinified by Jane, John's sister, in their winery located in the commune of Signaghi. Grapes in whole bunches are placed in qvevris – large terracotta jars buried up to their necks in the ground – and macerated on the skins for six months (!), in keeping with traditional Georgian methods. Bottled without filtration or fining, and zero sulphur.
