One of our favourite cuvées from Jonathan, a surprising wine with a nose of spice, blond tobacco and black fruit. The palate is powerful yet perfectly balanced, with a lovely acidity that promises this will age superbly. Try to be patient with this one!
Jonathan Maunoury
Jonathan Maunoury is a neo-vigneron: born in Normandy, an engineer by training, you could hardly say he was predestined for a life in wine. Yet one day while living in bustling Brussels and working a research position in the flexible screen industry (he couldn’t have been any farther from the great outdoors) he started feeling an unbearable desire for freedom. So he left to study viticulture and oenology in Beaune, became fascinated by biodynamics, and quickly found himself interning with such virtuosos as Mark Angeli and Vouette et Sorbée. Soon, Jonathan’s heart was set on creating his own estate, ideally in the Loire Valley, between Saumur and Puy-Notre-Dame. Why there? A fondness for the wines and the tight-knit community of winemakers he’d met there, and an intuition that the area’s tufa limestone would allow him to produce red and white wines of equal beauty. And so he has since 2017, the year he acquired five hectares of vines in Vaudelnay, already organic (since 1998) – a dream come true!
