Roussillon
A nose of red fruits, with small black berries, and a touch of fresh cocoa... The palate is fruity, boasting great finesse, freshness and delicacy.
A blend of Grenache Gris, Carignan and Mourvèdre, from vines farmed biodynamically and planted on a terroir of sandy clay, gravel and schist. Vinification: 10 days of maceration in stainless steel vats, with half the grapes whole bunch and the rest destemmed and crushed. Gentle pressing, blending of free run juice and press juice, end of fermentation and maturation on the lees for 10 months in 250- and 500-litre amphorae. Bottled when the moon was right, without fining, filtration, or added sulphur.
Alain Castex, an iconic figure in the region of Banyuls and Roussillon, produced wines of another era. He refused to use any oenological additives. Producing in small volumes, his wines had always been ultra-confidential, at most 5000 bottles in the biggest years. Such is the fruit of this impassioned winemaker’s labours, this uncompromising and extremely meticulous man. Le Casot des Mailloles...
