Abrupts - 2023 - Henri Chauvet
Domaine Henri Chauvet
Complex nose of morello cherry, blackberry, spices, peony... Harmonious, long palate with velvety tannins. A very fine bottle that encapsulates this characteristic terroir and all Henri's work to transcribe it to its fullest potential.

100% Gamay, a blend of the finest Gamay terroirs on the historic Boudes hillside, with its steep slopes - hence the name of the cuvée (abrupt means steep in French)! A basalt terroir with different types of marl. Harvested by hand. 12 to 15 days of maceration of the whole bunches in large truncated wooden vats, a shorter maceration as the skins were thick after this scorching summer. 18 months of aging in old 228, 300, and 500-liter barrels. Bottled on the estate without fining or filtration, just a micro-dose of sulphur (1.5 gr/hl).

During a car trip through Auvergne, he immediately fell in love with the region “and its incredible terroirs”. Lucky...
