Alain Castex, an iconic figure in the region of Banyuls and Roussillon, produced wines of another era. He refused to use any oenological additives. Producing in small volumes, his wines had always been ultra-confidential, at most 5000 bottles in the biggest years. Such is the fruit of this impassioned winemaker’s labours, this uncompromising and extremely meticulous man. Le Casot des Mailloles delighted us year after year since the beginning of the 21stcentury, then in 2015, Alain sold his 3.5 ha of black schist soils overlooking the sea to Jordi Perez... terroirs that return the love you give them, but which remain very difficult to work day-to-day, especially when the powerful Tramontane starts to blow. Alain brought to Cave Pur Jus the wines from his Vins du Cabanon vineyard, a hectare of vines grown on the plain in Trouillas, 15 km south of Perpignan. Castex was an endearing vigneron, who left his mark and sadly left us in June 2023.
