Nose of black fruits, blackberry, raspberry coulis... Lightly full-bodied on the palate, dense and supple tannins, perfect balance, slightly spicy finish with salty hints. A very big bottle.
Pinot Noir from biodynamically managed vines planted on Les Malconsorts, a plot of 0.89 ha that covers the Cru from bottom to top, with clay and gravel soils at the top of the plot and red clay at the bottom. Historically, the plot was cleared by planting vines only in 1610. Hand-picking at maturity, controlled yields. Vinification in whole harvest, 15 days of maceration, maturing in barrels with 45% new barrels. Wine neither fined nor filtered, reasoned sulphur.
Etienne de Montille personifies the Domaine de Montille, the celebrated estate in Volnay whose origins date back to the 1750s.
