100% Menu Pineau from old vines farmed organically. Harvested by hand, very late, at full maturity — the grapes were picked in November. Natural winemaking: direct pressing, fermentation and ageing in barrels for 60 months. The wine develops a beautiful amber hue and fully ferments to dryness. Bottled without fining or filtration, and with no added sulfur. The label representing an elephant is a Maori design drawn by Heidi Kuka, Julien’s partner.

Julien Courtois, child of the 1976 vintage, is the eldest of two sons born to Claude Courtois , one of the most monumental figures in natural wine. Julien has had his own, separate production for nearly 20 years – before Le Clos de la Bruyère, now GAEC Courtois Kuka – and his approach is the same as his father’s, though with a sensibility all his own.
