A vibrant juice that opens on fresh red berries — think redcurrant and cranberry — before unfolding into a subtly spicy, refined, and addictive nose, just like all of Julien Courtois’ wines. The palate is supple and delicious, with a beautiful balance of fruit, structure, and drinkability.
100% Gamay de Chaudenay cuvée, from vines planted in 1968. A rare teinturier (literally, ‘dyer’) grape variety once used to add colour to other wines, now very rare. Vinification: 100% destemmed, one week of maceration with a few punch-down or pump-overs, 15 months of aging in old barrels. Unfined, unfiltered, zero added sulfites. The label of this wine is a Maori design drawn by Heidi Kuka, Julien’s partner.
Julien Courtois, child of the 1976 vintage, is the eldest of two sons born to Claude Courtois , one of the most monumental figures in natural wine.
