Sylvère et Cédric Massin
Sylvère and Cédric — father and son — are the duo behind Champagne Rémy Massin & Fils, based in Ville-sur-Arce, right in the heart of the Côte des Bar. Carrying forward a family tradition that began with Louis-Aristide Massin in 1865, it was Rémy Massin who, more than a century later in 1974, founded the estate as we know it today, by vinifying the family's own harvest. Sylvère soon joined the venture, and together they gradually expanded the domaine to around twenty hectares, mostly planted with Pinot Noir. The vineyards have been herbicide-free since the early 2000s and are now certified Haute Valeur Environnementale (HVE) and Viticulture Durable en Champagne — a clear sign of their deep respect for the land. The slopes here are well-ventilated, well-exposed, and rooted in Kimmeridgian soils, which promise beautifully ripe fruit. Their wide-ranging lineup of Champagnes showcases bright, expressive bubbles — wines that capture all the salty, savoury charm of the Arce Valley terroirs.
Very pretty nose with notes of lemon sorbet, jasmine, and biscuit... On the palate: great freshness, lively bubbles, fine acidity, and a floral finish. Impressive value for money!
Beautiful Blanc de Blancs Champagne, with notes of baked apple, Granny Smith apple, orange peel, and a chalky touch. The palate is mineral, echoing the citrus and white fruits from the nose, with a saline, mouthwatering finish.
Pear, wild strawberry, raspberry jelly, toasted bread... the aromatic profile is complex and captivating, striking a fine balance between freshness and indulgence. On the palate: a vinous Champagne, generous volume, and once again, an excellent quality-to-price ratio.
Notes of lemon peel, candied lemon, sea breeze, and white peach, all wrapped in a hint of honey. On the palate: the extended ageing on lees brings rich complexity — this is a cuvée defined by generosity and texture.
A beautiful expression of the varietal in this Blanc de Noirs, with a nose of crisp apple and citrus, marked by great minerality. “An identity-driven Champagne, it offers lovely texture and sapidity,” say Sylvère and Cédric.
Notes of poached pear, yellow and white peach, mirabelle plum, with a toasted touch. The palate is round and creamy, with both beautiful freshness and fine bubbles — the whole is subtle and refined.
The nose immediately transports us to... a Petit Beurre biscuit! As if crumbled over a delicious Greek yogurt with honey, topped with red berries. Yum! The palate is just as delightful — balanced, vinous, savoury, and long.
The nose reveals notes of red berries, brioche, and candied orange. The palate is both precise and deep, with fine bubbles and great refinement. The finish is delicately tangy with a floral touch, offering lovely aromatic length.
