Powerful and complex nose with notes of apricot, pineapple, honey, frangipane, subtle vanilla, and a delicate hint of oak. The palate lives up to the nose, powerful, spherical, slightly oxidative, with well-integrated oak and a very long finish. Pair it with a nice piece of meat in sauce.
Christophe & Léa Bonnefond
Patrick and Christophe Bonnefond are the two brothers behind the Domaine Bonnefond as we know it today, joined since 2019 by Léa, Christophe’s daughter. Starting from their father’s mixed-farming estate, with just 2.5 hectares of vines whose grapes were sold to the local cooperative, the Bonnefond brothers completely redefined the value of their Côte-Rôtie terroir, pulling out fruit trees to plant vines. Of course, they kept the estate’s oldest parcels, planted in 1947 by their grandfather and now forming the backbone of the Les Rochins cuvée. Domaine Bonnefond today covers close to 11 hectares, and Patrick, Christophe and Léa have reached what they consider the ideal and maximum size for the estate, allowing them to maintain quality by controlling every step of the process. Careful soil work, meticulous, clean viticulture… the proof is in the glass: the Bonnefond family produces refined wines with serious ageing potential, yet already beautifully drinkable in their youth.
