Thomas Lubbe

Thomas Lubbe hails from South Africa. In France, he was one of the finest students of Gérard Gauby, thanks to whom he met Nathalie, Gérard’s sister, with whom he settled in 2001 in Calce, in a still unspoilt environment, where they founded the Domaine Matassa. After starting out small, the estate would slowly grow in size. Thomas would acquire old, high altitude parcels where he produces delicate wines, especially whites, marked by their freshness. Like Gérard Gauby’s estate, Matassa is certified organic. They don’t practice biodynamics to the letter, as it doesn’t translate perfectly in this context, nevertheless handmade preparations are concocted from plants that grow all around the estate. The lunar calendar is also perfectly respected for all vineyard activities (pruning, vine treatments, harvest, racking, bottling). The use of sulphur is rare and test results are often stunning, showing less than 7 mg/litre.... Yes, these wines are natural in every way.
