100% Grenache Noir, a curiosity in an appellation that nonetheless authorises 13 grape varieties… but that is precisely the genius and the signature of Rayas. These old vines are farmed without any chemical products, using only substances that one can “drink or breathe,” and are planted on a unique terroir within the appellation, where sand plays a key role. The grapes were harvested by hand. Vinification with whole clusters, followed by ageing for several years in casks that have seen several wines.
Emmanuel Reynaud
Emmanuel Reynaud, child of the 1963 vintage, was the discreet and perfectionist winemaker behind Château Rayas, Château des Tours, and Château de Fonsalette. He was heir to a lineage that began in 1880 with his great-grandfather Albert, and he took over Château Rayas and Château de Fonsalette in 1997 following the death of his uncle Jacques.
