A blended cuvée of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 15% Cinsault, from old vines planted on soils of rolled pebbles. While not certified organic, the vines are farmed without any chemical treatments, using only products that can be “drunk or breathed.” The grapes were harvested by hand, with low yields. Vinification: fermentation and maceration of the whole clusters, aged for several years in old casks.
Emmanuel Reynaud
Emmanuel Reynaud, child of the 1963 vintage, was the discreet and perfectionist winemaker behind Château Rayas, Château des Tours, and Château de Fonsalette. He was heir to a lineage that began in 1880 with his great-grandfather Albert, and he took over Château Rayas and Château de Fonsalette in 1997 following the death of his uncle Jacques.
