A blended cuvée of 80% Grenache Noir and 20% Syrah from old vines planted in Sarrians, one of the two communes of the Vacqueyras appellation, on soils of rolled pebbles. Although not certified organic, the vines are farmed without any chemical products, using only inputs that can be “drunk or breathed.” The grapes were harvested by hand, with low yields. Vinification: maceration of the whole clusters, followed by ageing for several years in old casks.
Emmanuel Reynaud
Emmanuel Reynaud, child of the 1963 vintage, was the discreet and perfectionist winemaker behind Château Rayas, Château des Tours, and Château de Fonsalette. He was heir to a lineage that began in 1880 with his great-grandfather Albert, and he took over Château Rayas and Château de Fonsalette in 1997 following the death of his uncle Jacques.
