Beaujolais
Morgon Athanor - 2015 - Jean Foillard - Magnum
Jean Foillard
A special 2015 vintage that we will probably never see again, a rich and sunny juice that is now fully expressed, with notes of cherry, plum, cocoa, stewed fruit... This is a departure from the classic Beaujolais style! Rich, full-bodied and powerful on the palate, with a long finish.

Athanor means “furnace” in Latin. It was produced in 2015 instead of the famous 3.14 cuvée, but it comes from the same vines. A selection of the oldest vines from the “Côte de Py” plots, more than 100 years old, farmed organically and planted on decaying granite and manganese soils. Vinification: harvesting by hand, whole bunch vinification, cold carbonic maceration, long ageing in barrels without new oak. Bottled without fining or filtration, just a micro-dose of sulfur.
Jean Foillard
Jean Foillard, P'tit Jean to his friends, joined his family’s estate of 8 hectares in 1981. Son and grandson of vignerons, one could say it was simply in the order of things that he’d return to the fold. Today, the renown of his wines has made him a revered giant of Beaujolais. At the celebrated Côte de Py vineyard site, Jean creates natural wines while following the precepts of Jules Chauvet....
