Powerful nose, already wide open and expressive, with notes of apricot, musk, honey, iris, gunflint, verbena, and even a hint of cardamom… The palate is round, creamy, and generous, carrying the honeyed richness of the aromatics, with a long, mineral finish.
100% Roussanne from 28-year-old vines farmed organically and biodynamically, planted in Chignin on a parcel selection from the lieu-dit Les Châteaux, with full southern exposure and clay-limestone soils with a predominance of clay. Hand-harvested in crates. Vinification: direct pressing, fermentation and 6 months of aging in a horizontal ovoid vat made of fiberglass, designed to encourage a natural and continuous vortex. Total sulfur on March 25, 2025 after bottling: 60 mg/liter.
Gilles Berlioz is a model and an inspiration for many wine artisans in Savoie and far beyond. The son of a worker and trained as a landscaper, he turned to the vine in 1990 with his partner Christine, starting with less than a single hectare in Chignin. And what a journey since then!
