L'Astrolabe - 2018 - Bernard Duseigneur
Domaine Duseigneur
A rich, complex nose with notes of blackcurrant, leather, long pepper, and hints of vanilla and undergrowth. The palate is powerful and well-balanced, fleshy and velvety, with a long, fresh finish, which all makes for an eminently drinkable wine, especially for such a sunny juice!

100% Syrah from 50-year-old vines farmed biodynamically on deep sand and sandstone soils at 160 metres altitude. A single vineyard selection, from north facing slopes at the western end of the Lirac appellation. Harvested by hand. Vinification: the grapes are de-stemmed, followed by maceration in cement vats with indigenous yeasts, délestage (rack and return), and maturation for 12 months in demi-muid barrels that have seen one to three wines. Bottled on the estate with a dose of sulphur, but without fining or filtration.
