A great introduction to the style of Maison Legras & Haas, which seeks here to offer us, in a single glass, the very essence of “champagne”! A wonderful endeavor! Notes of white fruit, citrus, and an exotic touch. On the palate: a lovely, enveloping richness and a long finish with nice volume.
Rémi, Olivier et Jérôme Legras
Rémi, Olivier and Jérôme Legras run the Legras & Haas house, in Chouilly, Grand Cru of the Côte des Blancs. Their father François, learning the vine from his own father from the age of 16, carries four centuries of the village's winegrowing tradition. Their mother Brigitte Haas, originally from Alsace, settled in Champagne in the 1960s. The couple founded the house in 1991, handed down today to the three brothers, backed by their winemaker Maxime Palgé. In Chouilly, the family farms 18 hectares, roughly half their vineyard. Across the terroirs of Vitry, Les Riceys, Aÿ and Leuvrigny, Chardonnay stays at the heart of the house: precise, taut, saline Blanc de blancs. The vineyard is worked by hand and farmed with care, and the Legras & Haas family trust each other, even when that means going against the grain, always with the same aim: shaping wines that look like them, built on their remarkable terroirs.
