A beautiful, dry Chenin—complex, with notes of lemon, white peach, verbena, and chamomile, a mineral backbone, and plenty of freshness. On the palate: savory, with great purity and tension, and a long, powerful finish carried by a hint of vanilla.
100% Chenin from 40-year-old vines, farmed organically and planted on cold clay soils with a limestone subsoil. Gentle, manual vineyard management. The grapes were harvested by hand, with yields of 30 hl/ha. Winemaking: direct pressing of the whole clusters in a pneumatic press; indigenous yeasts; 70% of the wine is aged in 228-liter barrels that have seenb other wines, and 30% in fiberglass tanks. Bottled at the Clos, without fining or filtration, and with no added sulfites.
Henri Bruneau and Antoine Labrosse have run Clos de l'Épinay since 2023, taking over a historic Vouvray estate founded over 300 years ago, with the manor house at the Clos dating back to 1702.
