Loire Valley

La Biche - 2023 - Clos de l'Epinay

Henri Bruneau & Antoine Labrosse

Ripe white fruit, hints of citrus and butter, a mineral backbone—a Chenin just the way we like it, structured and built for aging! A few words from Henri: “This wine reflects the acidity of its soil and climate; it is very stable yet very lively.”

A vintage produced exclusively in 2023, made from a combination of specific plots: 100% Chenin, old vines from massal selection, planted on sloping clay-limestone soils in the Premières Côtes of Vouvray, facing South. The grapes were hand-harvested at full ripeness; without settling, and aged for 15 months in fiberglass, stainless steel, and concrete tanks, as well as in 228-liter barrels without new oak. Bottled at the estate without fining nor filtration, with no added sulfites, and further aged in bottle in the estate’s cellars.

We're on the premier côte here, soils mixing clay, limestone, flint, and clay-silica sands. The 18 hectares — 17 of them Chenin — are massale selection, farmed organically, with huge work first on parcel...
