Tounot - 2021 - Quinta da Pellada
Álvaro de Castro
A wonderful surprise, an explosive blend that works beautifully, with notes of cherry, strawberry, plum, cocoa, and lovely minerality. Well-balanced on the palate, the Pinot plays its role perfectly, softening the tannins, with a long, pure finish. Magnificent!!!

A blend of Touriga Nacional (40-year-old vines) and Pinot Noir (20-year-old vines), the name of this cuvée is a combination of the two grape varieties. Two plots on granite soils, at an altitude of around 500 meters, cultivated organically and harvested by hand. Separate vinification of the two grape varieties: full destemming, crushing, 6 days of maceration, pressing, fermentation in large open top granite vats (called lagar in Portugal), followed by 18 months of aging in French oak barrels, without new oak. Bottled at the estate.
