Auksinis Macération - 2017 - Sébastien Riffault
Domaine Sébastien Riffault
An insane nose – evokes a sweet liquoreux wine (passion fruit, mango, flambéed banana, mandarin, honey, ginger, candied apricot...) Ultra aromatic with tight mineral structure, lovely acidity, and a long finish. Harvested mid-Nov. with 17% potential alcohol, Auksinis is "late" in Lithuanian.

A Sauvignon cuvée from a 1-ha parcel planted on a clay-limestone soil, located in the commune of Verdigny. The vines are 50 years old, grown biodynamically (the estate is certified organic and biodynamic by DEMETER), and the yields quite low, around 20 hl/ha. As for the vinification: maceration and fermentation in old barrels, including malolactic fermentation, all with natural yeasts. Soft pressing, matured 36 months in old barrels on its fine lees, and bottled without filtration. No sulphur is added – during vinification, maturation, or at bottling.

Sébastien Riffault
Sébastien Riffault, look no further, it’s him, the 100% natural winemaker in Sancerre. His estate, Domaine Etienne et Sébastien Riffault, is located in Sury-en-Vaux. There Sébastien works his soils with horses, uses zero chemicals in the vines, and farms biodynamically. If is approach recalls that of Alexandre Bain, it’s perhaps not surprising to know the two are not only neighbours but close...
